New Garage Door Installation in Downtown Fort Worth, Fort Worth, TX
Taking the old door down is the dangerous part of the job. Those springs are still holding several hundred pounds of torque even though the door is just sitting there. In Downtown Fort Worth, Fort Worth we unwind that with winding bars before a single bracket comes off the wall. That order never changes.

The five measurements that decide what fits
Width and height of the opening are the obvious two. The three that decide the hardware are headroom, backroom and side room. Standard track wants about twelve inches of clear headroom above the opening, more if a rail opener is going on that ceiling. Low headroom kits get that down to around four and a half inches using double track and split drums. Backroom needs the door height plus about eighteen inches of clear depth. Side room needs about three and three quarter inches on each side for the vertical track. If one of those comes up short, the fix is a different track setup, not a smaller door.
The stuff people forget to ask about
The bottom seal has to match your slab, and slabs around here are rarely flat, so an oversize seal may be needed to close a gap on one end without buckling on the other. Weatherstrip on the jambs and header keeps out dust and sideways rain. Track has to be lagged into solid framing, and rotten jamb wood gets replaced before the door goes on it. Rollers that come with an entry level door are often steel with open bearings. Upgrading to sealed nylon at install is cheap and it is the single biggest difference in how quiet the door is.
What happens to your old door
Removal starts by unwinding the torsion springs with winding bars so the stored energy comes off in a controlled way. Only then do the cables come off the drums and the sections come down from the top, one at a time, so no section is ever holding up the ones above it. Old panels, track, springs and hardware leave with us. The steel goes to recycling, not to your curb.

Almost entirely commercial and loft conversions, so the work here is structured parking-garage doors, rolling steel service entries and high-cycle grilles rather than residential sectionals.

What you are probably seeing
- Two years of repair bills are adding up to a real chunk of a new door.
- Several sections are dented and the dents have creased, not just dimpled.
- The bottom section is rusted or swollen from sitting on a wet slab.
- You can see daylight all the way around a closed door with a good seal.
- The door visibly flexes in the middle as it starts to lift.

Measure and spec
Opening, headroom, backroom, side room, jamb and header condition, and whether the existing opener is worth keeping. You get options at more than one construction level with the tradeoffs explained, not one recommended package.
Order with a real lead time
Stock sizes and finishes move quickly. Custom widths, specialty finishes and window inserts take longer, and you get that number before the deposit rather than after.
Take the old one down safely
Springs unwound with winding bars, cables released from the drums, sections down from the top in order. Old track, hardware and springs go with us.
Install and set the counterbalance
Sections stack from the bottom with hinges and rollers set as they go, track gets lagged into solid framing and aligned, then shaft, drums and springs go in and get wound to the turn count the finished door weight calls for.
Commission it
Door gets run by hand to confirm balance, opener travel and force get set, sensors get mounted within six inches of the floor, the auto reverse gets tested against an obstruction, and we walk you through the manual release before we leave.

Questions
New Garage Door Installation in Downtown Fort Worth, Fort Worth
Can I keep my existing opener?
Usually, if it is mechanically sound and has working photo eyes. Two things to watch. A much heavier insulated door asks more of an older half horsepower unit. And the opener arm needs a properly reinforced top section, which may mean adding a strut. If the opener is old enough to have no photo eyes, replace it regardless of the door.
How much headroom do I need?
About twelve inches above the opening for standard track. Less than that and you are looking at a low headroom conversion with double track and split drums, which works in roughly four and a half to six inches, or a wall mount opener that gets rid of the ceiling rail entirely. Both cost more, so measure before you pick a setup.
Is insulation worth it if the garage is not heated or cooled?
Depends what is above it and what you do in there. Parking only, nothing conditioned next to it, and the payback is just comfort during the hours you are out there, which for a lot of people is not much. Room above, workshop inside, or a door straight into the kitchen, and the insulated door is clearly the better buy.
Do you replace the track too?
Yes, always. Reusing old track on a new door is false economy. Vertical track carries the door's alignment, old track is worn where the rollers ride and usually a little out of plumb, and any of that transfers straight into your new panels and rollers.
Will the color match my trim?
Steel doors come in a range of stamped designs and factory colors, and overlay carriage house looks are available too. Honest warning: a factory color and hand mixed trim paint almost never match perfectly. If an exact match matters, get a paintable primed door and finish it on site.
